Keep in Touch with Monthly & Quarterly News

Seattle Children's Hospital's Guild Association does a great job of sharing news with all guild members. If you are not receiving the monthly Guild Notes or
quarterly Guild News, please follow the link and sign up on the right-hand side of the page, or email the Guild Association at guildassociation@seattlechildrens.org

We love good news, like this, from the Winter Issue of Guild News:

Wow! You Raised $11.47 Million!

Thanks to your incredible fundraising efforts, the Guild Association raised $11.47 million from projects and membership dues in fiscal year 2013 – $1.1 million more than expected, and $800,000 more than last year! Congratulations to our top 25 guilds...which raised 82% of the total. Special thanks to the Friends of Costco Guild, which raised an astounding 54% of the total.
You can look up past issues of the Guild News online, as well.

You can also find the Guild Association on facebook - check it out so you can keep up with all the good things that happen because of you, and your fellow members! We love to hear from you - please keep in touch!

Liberty Bay Books Knitting Group

The lovely ladies of Liberty Bay Books' Knitting Group have done it again! Here are their latest contributions to Katie's Comforters Guild:
We give thanks for the knitters, and for Suzanne, owner of Liberty Bay Books, who welcomes their group to her independent, local bookstore in downtown Poulsbo, WA!

Donations from Out of State

A kind lady named Jaimee contacted me recently, with an offer to make and send quilts to Seattle Children's Hospital through Katie's Comforters Guild. She and her children worked together, and look at the great results:
Six beautiful, cheery blankets and quilts, made by friends we've never met, to bless sick children.
Thank you, Jaimee and family!

Free Yarn Offer!

Would you like to receive the gift of FREE YARN to make it easy for you to knit/crochet blankets for Katie's Comforters Guild at Seattle Children's Hospital? We've received a very kind offer and would love to put it into the hands of people who can transform it into comforters!

A Message from Your President

Dear Cherished Guild members,
I just learned something new today which I need to share with you: according to Melissa at the Guild Association office,
if you have not paid your membership dues for the space of one year, your name will automatically be removed from the membership list, and you will no longer receive correspondence from the Guild Association. This means that news and information will not be delivered to you; much of it will still be accessible online, but they no longer consider you a member of our guild.
I did not know that this was the case until today!

If you have stopped receiving communications from the Guild Association and wondered why, this may be the reason. If you would like to maintain (or resume) your membership, please call Melissa at the Guild Association office (206) 987-6806 or email her at melissa.cardenas@seattlechildrens.org (or email me at karenlboren@yahoo.com) and we will be happy to help!

We value each and every one of you, and do not want to lose touch with you, so please help us to stay connected.

Dues are easy to pay online. The cost is only $25 per year, and only $10 per year for senior citizens and junior guild members. There are options for lifetime membership (one payment) and other levels of contribution. You even get to choose which area of the hospital your dues support!

We hope that you will be able to join all of the guilds at the Annual Meeting and Luncheon on May 9th. It's going to be inspiring and educational!

Date: Friday, May 9, 2014
9:30 a.m. (project display tables open)
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (luncheon)
Location: Westin Hotel, Seattle

Happy Anniversary!...and an Invitation

Our guild received a certificate of appreciation from Seattle Children's Hospital's Guild Association in honor of our 5th anniversary.
They plan to honor our guild at the Annual Membership Luncheon on May 9th, 2014. I hope you can attend!
If you are not yet a member of our guild, please consider joining and you will be welcome to attend this luncheon.
It is going to be a star-studded event, featuring a keynote speech by Dr. Jim Hendricks, the president of Seattle Children's Research Institute, and a special guest appearance by Dr. Michael Jensen (of the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children's Research Institute).
The Katie Gerstenberger Endowment for Cancer Research supports Dr. Jensen's lab.
One of the special presentations at the luncheon will be by a patient, Milton Wright, who is now cancer-free after his third occurrence (second relapse) of leukemia. His cancer was wiped out after he was treated with the protocol which Dr. Jensen developed!
Heartfelt thanks
to all of our guild members,
friends and donors!
We appreciate each one of you
who so generously share your
time, talent and treasure
with our guild
in order to bring comfort
to patients and families
at Seattle Children's Hospital.

When I think about how it all began with this quilt
which brought such comfort to Katie,
I am thrilled with the power of an idea, when put into generous hearts and hands.
The very first quilt made by Katie's Comforters
HAPPY 5th ANNIVERSARY, friends!
