Happy July, Thanks & Cancer Research BREAKTHROUGH NEWS!

Wishing you a happy July! Our guild has been blessed yet again by Lucile and Noble Nilsen. Here is the latest batch of Lucile's handiwork:

32 new quilts & blankets!

I had the privilege of delivering some of our donated fabric to Gabriele, who is visiting our area this summer. Gabriele owns a quilter's retreat house in Texas, and has generously offered to sew for Katie's Comforters Guild this summer. We had a great meeting/hand-off, and I look forward to seeing what her creative imagination leads her to do with the fabric. Thank you, Gabriele!

We were grateful to receive a box of yarn from Georgann S., which we are going to give to Liberty Bay Books' Knitting Group; they will work their "magic" and turn it into blankets for patients. Thank you, Georgann!

You may have heard or read about the breakthrough at the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children's Hospital. In case you missed it, the patient in the first clinical trial for T-Cell therapy is in REMISSION. The Katie Gerstenberger Endowment for Cancer Research supports the work of the Ben Towne Center and we could not be happier to receive this news. To learn more, follow this link. Lucile & Noble Were Here...

...and they donated 28 cozy, colorful new blankets and quilts to our guild!

Please try to ignore the sunlight streaming in through the windows, making the colors look a bit different. We don't complain about sunshine here! These are a few examples of the beautiful blankets in this batch.

BIG THANKS to Michelle

Michelle F. is a fabulous advocate for our guild. She keeps coming up with good ideas, and seems naturally able to create events that invite and involve people who are new to our guild and its work. She is a gifted quilter, as well!

I received this email from her the other day:

"Karen,

I’m doing a quilting party for the guild tomorrow at a local church – they invited me to come, bring some fabric and supplies, and the ladies of their relief guild will bring their machines and sew blankets! I drafted up this little info sheet on how I make simple blankets with a self-binding back, and I thought I’d share it with you in case you wanted to post it on the blog. Also, I distributed 12 quilt kits last month, and I’ve already got one lady who has finished and asked me for 2 more kits."

She has had great success sharing her pre-assembled quilt-making kits, as you can see from her message. In fact, I'm going to assemble some myself next week with our cousins, Rebecca and Kathy. They are going to share them with the Stillaguamish Grange for the event in June.
