Cami & Liberty Bay Books

Living in a small town can be a wonderful thing, especially when you have a local, independent bookstore like Liberty Bay Books as a keystone on the main street.

Liberty Bay Books is owned by Suzanne, who offers many groups a place to gather in her cozy, welcoming store. A variety of book groups, free game nights, authors' events and the Liberty Bay Books Knitters are just a few of the community events hosted at LBB. The knitting group has been a long-time supporter of Katie's Comforters Guild, and they just contributed six blankets, two hats and a quilt. We don't often know who knit/crocheted which blanket, but in this case, one of them came with a label from Nancy Brennan, so we want to say "thank you" specifically to Nancy, and generally to the Liberty Bay Books Knitters. If you are ever in Poulsbo, stop in and check out the shop!

Suzanne's good friend Cami is one of our dear neighbors. Cami is a busy world traveler who still makes time to do things for others; she recently donated 32 fleece blankets in various themes (including University of Washington Huskies, Washington State University Cougars and Seattle Seahawks designs) which are sure to please sports-loving patients and their families! Thank you, Cami!

We are grateful to our local community for its caring and support of Katie's Comforters Guild!

Gratitidue for Friends, Near and Far

It's always good to hear from friends, near and far away. We have received two generous donations from two far-away friends: one from Cami, who has been living in China, and one from Dorothy, who lives in Idaho.

Dorothy (Dottie) makes fleece blankets with a sewn binding, and finishes them with her own labels, which say, "A Kiss from Katie." Dottie donated this group of eight soft fleece blankets, in colors sure to delight both boys and girls:
Thank you, Dottie!

Cami was back at home for a visit from China, and during her visit (between looking after family members east of the mountains, and traveling out of state for a wedding), she took the time to cut fringe into 23 fleece blankets to donate to Katie's Comforters Guild. That is true dedication! Here is Cami's donation:
As she originally hails from Eastern Washington, Cami represented Washington State University well with her choice of fleece (red blankets), yet was also fair enough to include the University of Washington Huskies (purple blankets) as well as the Seattle Seahawks (blue). Patients who are sports fans will be very happy with these team colors!
Thank you, Cami!

Cami Does it Again!

Camille has made another donation - this time, 12 fleece blankets - to Katie's Comforters Guild. We are greatly blessed by her friendship and support.

Look at these cute and cuddly-soft blankets:
There is something for everyone here, and two of several of the patterns, to make up the 12.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity, Cami! Twelve patients are going to be very happy when they receive your blankets!

Cami's Fleece Blankets

Our dear friend and neighbor, Camille (a.k.a. Cami) is a faithful and generous supporter of Katie's Comforters Guild. She often makes trips to the fabric store, buys yards of fleece in a variety of fun patterns and colors, cuts fringe into them and then lets me know that they are ready to deliver. How grateful we are for her initiative and thoughtful generosity! Fleece blankets are lightweight, warm, washable, soft and cuddly.

If you don't sew, you might consider donating fleece fabric to our guild, or making blankets like Cami's. If you need design ideas, look on our sidebar here, or leave a message for me.

Here is Cami's latest batch of 11 fleece blankets (there is more than one in each pattern).
Thank you, Cami! We appreciate you and your gifts!

Good Neighbors

We have wonderful neighbors who generously support Katie's Comforters Guild.
One of those is Cami H., who is a great fleece blanket-maker. Cami has done it again with a "nod" to the Seattle Seahawks. Here are five of her latest bright, cheerful, team-spirit blankets.
These are certainly going to brighten the days of young fans who are spending time in the hospital - and the Seahawks who visit them!
Thank you, Cami!

How Much Fleece Will Fit Into an SUV?

Would you like to guess?

Before we answer that question, I'd like to thank Jeanne M., our neighbor, for her "stealth" delivery of fabric to our doorstep. We found the mystery donation, wondered about it for a few hours, and then received a nice email from Jeanne, telling us that she had dropped by with a bag and box of fabric. Mystery solved:
If you need fabric for making a quilt for Seattle Children's patients, we have it!
Thank you, Jeanne!

I received a call from the Guild Association office. Terri told me that someone had donated four large bins of fleece, and asked if we could use it. YES, we could! Thank you Terri, and thank you, unknown donor!

Here is the fun part: Terri told me that these bins are large, and that I might need a truck. I don't have a truck, but I do have a medium-sized SUV. I was bringing a donation of quilts and blankets to the hospital on the same day that I picked up the fleece. It was a tight fit, because these are
30-gallon bins.
Two ways of looking at the same donation. 120 gallons of fabric from one side...
...and from the other side.
That's 120 gallons of fleece! If you would like to make fleece blankets for the hospital, no need to purchase the fabric; "we've got you covered!"
